Dreaming of Hunting with my new Fox

I put a few drops of Woodford Reserve over an ice cube or two and told the wife I was going down to the man cave to snap a few caps with Reynard last night.
I closed my eyes and before I knew it, I was dreaming about woodcock, dogs and very special to me 16-gauge Fox.
I had my phone with me, so I memorialized the moment. I can't wait for grouse and woodcock season to open up.
I'm going bear hunting in Maine the week of August 28th and was disappointed to learn that the grouse and woodcock season does not open until mid-September.
It would have been nice to take a day or two to explore some public land a couple of mornings if I could have worked out the logistics.

Best wishes for many successful and memorable hunts with your Fox! At least if the action is slow, you can gaze down at that beautiful gun you patiently waited so long for. I, too, am dreaming of the fall/winter seasons and the hunts that hopefully come with them. I don't want to wish away time but I am excited for them none the less. Yesterday here in the deep south, we had a "cold front" move in. The mercury dropped into the 60's early in the morning and the humidity layed down. It only topped out around 87 degrees. No worry though, the weather man is predicting 100 degrees next Wednesday. We still have summer, false fall, and second summer to get through. Maybe by the end of October we can enjoy outside again!

I’m hunting Maine the same week. What part of Maine you hunting?

Good luck, I'll be using my Savage 99R in .300 Savage with 180 grain Core-Lockt's as my primary gun.
Should be plenty good enough for Black Bears.

I shot one that tipped the scales at just under 300 lbs Monday afternoon.

I know this thread veered way off topic but I thought I'd give it a conclusion.
My wife's favorite part of the trip was me bringing her back a 50 lb. sack of taters!
We also had the obligatory lobster feast the last night. 4 - 3.5 +/- pounders came to about $230

Nice! It’s all a part of the adventure. Sometimes the lobster dinner with buddies is just as good as the hunt.

Roger ,always enjoy your hunting posts well as your gun post. you seem to be fortunate to hunt and enjoy some great outdoor activities . thanks for sharing.I seem to remember you having a double gun , slug or rifle or possibly parodox,if so could you direct me to post. forgive me if im remembering this wrong.congrats on bear,regards fred

Good memory Fred.
I have a CSMC 20-gauge slug double that I was thinking of bringing. Instead, I brought a Savage 99 in .300 savage and a 12-gauge Benelli Super Black Eagle dedicated slug gun.
The night before at orientation, my outfitter said that if he had a choice, he'd take the Benelli, since it had a Zeiss scope on it and the sabot slugs I use are Winchester Partition Gold's that send a 385-grain partition slug down the barrel at 1,900 FPS. (this outclasses a lot of 45-70 loads). I'm sure the 180 grain Core Lokt bullets would have been ok from the 99 but he said every year guys lose bears due to the lack of sign after the hit, so I took his advice.
I got a complete pass-through and the bear piled up in 20 yards. This picture shows the exit side. The slugs sure did the job and then some.
