The other B

A few photos of the 20-gauge B i just acquired. She has 28" #4 barrels, and the measured weight is 6 lb 6 oz. Just sent my money today for a letter on her, but the chokes measure IM / IM. Well used and needs a little TLC, but I think she'll be a dandy dove gun!

The weight of 6 lbs. 6 oz. is good. Not too whippy.

In my experience there is a group of Fox guns that exhibit very muted case colors. I believe it was during the change over from the bone and charcoal era to the cyanide era. I have examined a dozen or so that exhibit the muted colors. If you look at the water table it becomes very apparent. I don't know if it was a result of a change to chromox steel forgings that took color differently or just a early attempt to perfect the cyanide process. If you get a chance post a picture of the action water table on the gun pictured.

Yes that is the muted tone CC I was referring too. I bet your gun was made in 1917. Here is my 12ga 1917 B with the muted CC. Typically B's from this time period have very nice wood.

A friend owns a B one serial number higher than the gun I pictured, the wood is plain straight grain no figure.

My 4th generation B-Grade is only 14 serial numbers higher than "Meat-in-the-Pot" which shipped July 1, 1914, but it didn't ship until September 23, 1918.
I have a 20-gauge AE-Grade very close in serial number to the OP's gun and it shipped July 24, 1920.
