I inherited a very interesting gun. It is an over/under. It is a double barrel (16 or 20 gauge?) shotgun over a rifle (30 cal.?). It has a thumb operated “flip-up” sight for targeting. It has a lot of detailed engraving. Its serial number is #2899. The visible markings are: Hilmer Fox E1 Possneck Nitro 87mm KO U H1G 72 There are more markings in the pictures.
I am no photographer, but I have attached some photos of the gun and its markings. I have many more photos but I am not sure how to add them to this post. Can you help me with any information about this gun or know someone that I should contact?
Thank you. Carter Hubbard

chubb, welcome, what you have is a nice example of a drilling,2 shotgun bbl over single rifle barrel.the fox designation is probably the model not the make.search drillings online and you should be able to find similar examples.it looks to be a higher grade that you are fortunate to have inherited. good luck  fred ps after looking a second time i think it says FOKEL not FOX.

Beautiful gun. I would strongly recommend going to the Doublegun forum and post pictures in the "German and Austrian Sporting Guns" section. There are a couple of guys that have amazing knowledge regarding fine old German firearms. They can help. Jeff

Thank you both. After looking at an enlarged photo, I think it says Hilmar Fokel. Fred you are correct it does say Fokel and not Fox.
Thank you, Jeff. I will go to the Doublegun forum.
I will update any findings.
