Arcmaster, what do you know about my new .410 Skeeter?

Eightbore;
I am not an expert on these by any stretch, just admire the feel of a nice vintage .410 double. I have held a few of the Skeeter's and liked the feel. Your gun has beautiful wood.
thanks

Stan and arcmaster, I weighed the little Skeeter. It came out at 6 pounds, 14.4 ounces, so my guess of 7 pounds was real close. Lets say 7 pounds "loaded". It's going out this morning for some five stand.

How did the 5-stand go, Bill? I'll bet that 30" .410 is fun to shoot. Mine is, tho' it's not a Skeeter.

No doubt! It is the perfect weight and a great barrel length! I bet that it swings very well. I have found that a really light small gauge takes some adjustment in the swing for me to be able to consistently hit targets. I am sure that the five stand was a blast with 1/2 ounce of lead flying at the clays!! It makes one focus on the task at hand.

I normally shoot a crossover gun because I don't see out of my right eye. I shot a round of skeet with the Skeeter and shot about a 21 or 22, which surprised me, since the gun is choked full and full. However, there are guns out there that can be shot without seeing the target. I think this is one of them. I missed a low 7, repeated the shot, aiming at the target's feet and hit it hard. The gun shoots high. Wait for the next round. Shot some "Mad Jack" with the Buckingham Super Fox and did well. All in all a good day considering I have been laid up for about four years. This is my first day out except for a few shots with my sporting clays gun, which about killed me.

I know that most of us have a preference for American made vintage shotguns, but I figured that I should have at least one gun from "The Father Land". I purchased a 12 ga. Simson (for Ivers Johnson) that should work pretty well for woodcock. It's lightweight, has nice wood, and the barrels have been re-engineered for enhanced maneuverability in thickets. Unfortunately, I'll never have the photography skills that you guys have. Here's a picture of the receiver.

It turns out that the 12 ga. Simson with the 24" barrels will also work on pheasants. Notice the cloud of feathers leaving the recently hit rooster.

La pluma!
Great action shot, Jeff. I'll bet the dog didn't have to run that one down.
