Craig, Very sorry to hear about DeeDee. I had a similar situation a few years back and found it's best for us duck hunters to get right back at it with another pup. You don't forget the one you lost (and wonder what might have been) but a puppy darn sure takes the bite out of it. Fred

Sorry for your loss. I am sure Dee Dee is watching greenheads coming in with cupped wings while she waiting for you.

I expect to have a new Gordon setter pup chewing up what passes for furniture around here next week.

Craig, I am sorry to hear about your dog. I lost my four year old lab last year. We wound up with two pups in august. Two lab pups can keep one occupied. I started "hunting" them when they were four months old. We had a lot of good time in the field as they learned about the world. They even chased up an occasional bird. I seldom shot but we sure had fun. Enjoy your pup! John

Anyone who has ever been to Canaan Valley wildlife refuge in West Virginia will know how great a woodcock grouse habitat it is. I was there twice last week and once the week before and have been seeing some woodcock and good numbers of grouse. Looking forward to the upcoming season. Go too google earth and you can see where somebody planted willow trees that spell out the word Woodcock. Supposedly they were planted in the late 60,s. About halfway thru the refuge it can be seen,very near where the Little Blackwater joins the Blackwater.
