Fox Collectors

I think it needs to be easier to join. I'd join this very instant if I could submit my app and pay online. As it is, I don't have a printer, and when I'm at work, I get too busy to think about printing something. If I could pay via pay pal or something, I'd gladly do it, and I be a lot of other folks would too.

No printer huh? mommy used to tie a string on finger to help me remember. Maybe that would work.

In response to Mr. Knothole's thread, I would like to throw in my 2 cents worth. I was so happy to have found this site, being a fox "collector" since I was 13, (I am now 71", I joined the group immediately. It was several days thereafter, that I noticed the 25.00 join fee for the club.
I belong to other groups where all kinds of technical information is freely shared with others wishing to learn from the masters such as engravers.
I am sure if there had been a fee, the person would that started or owned the site would have been up front about it. I certainly have no problem with the 25.00, but I think that whomever owns this site should be the one to tell everyone about it. It's possible in my case, I might be able to give quite a bit of information my self..........free.

The reason the Board of Directors of the AH Fox Collectors Association decide to not use PayPal is their strong anti-gun stance. Many gun owners just flat out refuse to use PayPal. The AHFCA is a IRS registered non-profit corporation, our mission is not to make money but to serve and educate our membership and the general public about Fox guns. The $25.00 covers the cost of maintaining this web site, publishing two newsletters per year and covering the costs associated with shooting events and gun show displays. A full financial report and budget is presented at our annual meeting in September of each year. Every Board member serves without any compensation, they are not reimbursed for any expenses such as travel to events etc. This is a labor of love for the Board of Directors, if you don't see any value in this Association and elect not to join that is fine you are still welcome. You guys took my response the wrong way. The question was how to get more members. I suggested making it easier to pay. We all know Paypal is not the best on guns, but what better way to make a statement to them by using them to fund gun sites?

Will I send a check? Probably. Would I have paid immediately if I could have done so with a click of the mouse? Absolutely. Paypal also allows people to pay with a credit card. More options for payment is a good thing. And, of course, if someone wants to send a check, they are always free to do so.

There are other secure internet payment options, but paypal is the least expensive. People are used to using it. Other sites use it quite profitably. It also offers the ability to set up different levels of membership-such as gold or silver, showing support for the site. Not only that, it is often used to purchase items made available by the club.

I'm not trying to complain, just answer a question that was posed-how can the site get more paying members.

Birdawg, I've got quite a bit of "stuff", but maybe I should have said That I am an accumilator instead of a collector. I made up my mind in the beginning, that I wouldn't consider nothing but a Fox. Well, over a period of time you run into a few things that you just can't pass up. In the long run I've picked up a hand full of Parkers, L.C. Smiths, two or three Belgiums and an Ithaca. My real joy is taking a low end S.W. and making a pretty nice custom. I have not been really getting into the customizing part until the last couple of years. I do have an A grade Fox or two, the rest are S.W's. I will post a 20 and a 12 that I have finished. The 12 is one that I got for 190.00 I believe. I could possibly have saved it from becoming a parts gun, as it was missing a floorplate and had no stock. This my second attempt to post this message. I've probably got a problem on this end. I get logged out for no reason, and when I log back in, my message is gone!. So here goes again, maybe it will go.

I'll add a couple of comments on this topic after reflecting on the weekend at Greenwich and a flurry of PM's and emails since then.

In addition to receiving the AHFCA newsletter; access to our Members Forum for specific help and guns wanted and F/S; funding of this website, shoots and shows..... one of the least apparent but important advantages of being a dues-paying Fox Collector member is the networking that can come about when you join up and become active. It's human nature it seems, but IME a member of any organization is more likely to go the extra mile to help another member with a question, give another member first dibs on things, or support each other in many ways behind the scenes.

I understand some of our BBS members come with a question or two and then rarely sign on again. Fine! As Fox Admin posted: you are welcome. Nevertheless if you are active with Fox guns and want to help our organization grow, please consider becoming a full fledged member of the AHFCA. I think you're likely to get more payback than the $25.00 per year membership fee. For those interested, Membership application is on our home page.

As a new member in 2008 all I can say is the membership is definitely worth the $25. Send your check. You will not regret spending these few dollars.
