Fox Collectors

I have four or five, all in various stages of "home" repair or DIY restoration. I think they are WAY cool, and I used to use them, but frankly found that, for me, they are just too much trouble, for many of the reasons that Flatlander listed. When I go afield I often take two guns, and I have a "long" double gun case that my wife bought me from Galazan a few years back (it's barely visible in my avatar, and sadly they no longer offer it or I'd buy another). It offers good protection and easy access - quick in and out. On hunting trips away from home I may pack another gun or two, and for those I often use my LOM's - compact, easy to pack in the vehicle, etc. Mostly those guns stay in the case the whole trip, but you never know!

On the few occasions that I go to "the club" (I'm not a member but I do shoot there occasionally), nothing attracts attention like taking a nice sxs out of a leg o' mutton and putting it together before stepping up to the traps. Makes me feel way more important than I am !

You boys are right....they really are a p.i.a to use but there is that charming mystique of whats in one.

The great case sold for $355.00 plus shipping.

Picked up an old leg o mutton case around 1992 at the Ohio Gun Collectors show. It had a mans name, Cincinati, Ohio, and his SS#!!! engraved on the brass emblem on the case. I'm sure the old gent has passed, but in todays climate , you surely wouldn't want your ss# floating around. I never used the case, it was a PIA, but might be useful for traveling. I also picked up a C 16 Fox w/ a SW stock and a somewhat buffed receiver that I latere sold-- wish I had that back.

Well Boys I Am old enough to know about lom. cases.We used them because they are more compact then long cases. They also protect the gun better. We also used English take down cases. A long gun slip is fine for short trips buy dose not keep the gun as safe.If you are in that much of a hurry you cant take apart and put your shotgun together you find another game. Oh well its time for my nap . Verey Repectfully
