The card shoot sponsor/club typically provides a particular shotshell to every competitor, and that keeps unscrupulous guys from using heavy payloads and/or small diameter shot. Of course that might give jitters to vintage SxS guys who’ve been indoctrinated to only use so-called "low pressure" shells, short ones in particular, and will fret over cracking old dry wood, etc. How many here would decline doing the Card Shoot with their pet AH Fox or Parker if handed a High Brass" 12-ga shell with 1-1/4 ounce or even a standard Trap load at 1-1/8 ounce? wink: frank

Thanks for the reply. At the turkey shoots I wrote about they supplied the shotgun shell as you paid your entry fee ($1.00) so everyone was shooting from the same box of shells. I don't remember what size shot but I'm sure it was "low brass" to save money. The first time I shot my friend started laughing and I asked him why. He said he saw pieces of wood fly out of the back of the target when I shot.

Stan your super-ten is a beauty mine was rougher and some prior owner had the chamber extended to 3 1/2 in. I shot short ten in it for years and never saw any change in the bore or choke. the Young fella love to shoot it and I gave it to him at his commissioning party when he went in the Navy.

For most of my vintage 12-gauge doubles I wouldn't flinch at all, but I wouldn't use such a shell in my 6-pound 5-ounce C-Grade --
