Very very nice. Good looking team there. Wild Quail are my favorite bird to eat. 44whiskeyNailed it Stan. Quail a few and far between for us eastern types. That said, more then a few years ago I hit one spot in Nebraska for Roosters and saw only a few Roosters but got into Quail. Roosters were quickly forgotten because a covey of pointed Wild Quail is where life is good. We shot horribly for 3 days, but at the end of those 3 days we had 18 in the bag. Fried Quail twice were on the menu with greens and new potatoes. Life was wonderful. Sadly that area had a couple of ice storms for two years straight and the rancher whose land we hunted told us not to even come out the last two years. Wasn't worth the 21 hour drive from Va. Hopefully they will bounce back, but its on the northern part of the range and that range is very weather dependent.Stan Hillis wrote:IMO, fried quail, no gravy, grits simmered slow until creamy, and homemade biscuits are fit for a king. The quail need nothing else, if cooked properly, and the grits and biscuits need loads of butter, and salt and pepper on the grits. That's it.
