Fox CE 20 ga. SN200664

Post by Kim Manning »

I recently acquired the reference gun I am quite sure that the gun has been restored, but I don't know by whom. As a restored gun it is in excellent condition and has been used very little. This is only my second Fox. My firearms insurance premium will be due soon and I am uncertain as to what value to provide the agent Anybody .willing to give me an idea as to how much it should be insured for? I appreciate any help that could be provided.

Providing a few pictures and measurements of said gun would help on determining a value.

I would put down $20,000. Replacing that would be very difficult given the scarcity of CE 20's on the market every year.

If you have to provide a value prior to a loss, you have the wrong insurance company. Comments?

This insurance agent has required me to list every gun I own, valued at 10 K or more, on a separate schedule. They advertise in the Parker Pages. I will try to put up some pictures of the gun and its measurements. Thank you to all who helped.

If your insurance carrier needs a valuation >$10K on the CE20, I doubt it will accept estimates of value from random guys on the internet or even on this site. You’ll probably need a written valuation from a recognized high end SxS dealer on its letterhead and based on a physical, hands on inspection of the Fox. Frank

Kim, I understand that some companies require serial numbers on guns valued at over ten grand. Personally, I'm not interested in insuring over ten grand guns unless I plan on shipping them.

Kim,
My insurer requires the same for any gun valued over $10K. I would write down all the specs, take pictures and record the serial number. My insurer does not require an “appraised” value just a declaration of value and specific serial number. That value is declared in the policy itself. Now as for value as Tom said pictures, specs, etc. would be necessary and then you can do a search of auction site prices realized to get a “ball park” amount. Brett

I side with Foxnut and Silvers - I once shipped a $35K Westley Richards .476 Nitro Express double rifle from the East Coast to Chicago for a purchaser; I had it appraised, photographed, records of document from WR copied, and insured it to the max. estimated replacement value beforehand. I shipped it USPS registered mail and it transited within 10 days undamaged. You cannot have enough backup these days; I treated is like a Hazmat format shipping scheme; if it ever "wandered off the path", individtual recipients along the way were responsible and accountable.
