He won't post it here

Post by Maggiemollie »

So I will. Of 53 shooters in a trimo event (3 targets simo) our own Silvers (Frank) hit 128/150 to place 3rd shooting an M12 against a cast of autos.

He is too modest to say " I kicked ass" so I will say it for him.

BTW, couldn't have hit 3 more to win the damn event? 😂😂😂

Congratulations Frank. I would consider that impressive with an auto, it’s off the charts with a pump.

Thanks Ron but I'll kick you in the arse for posting when I see you next week at the Northeast SxS at Hidden Hollow.

Winchester Model 12's have long been my favorite repeater and actually I don't own a semi-auto shotgun in any gauge. The Winny I used yesterday is a 1948 12 ga/32" Field gun with an aftermarket Simmons Rib. I bought her for low bucks on GB about 6 years ago. All I've done is to put on a tapered spacer to reduce the barrel pitch along with replacing the Pachmayr white line pad with a Jostam Hy Gun pad. Winchester Full choke at 36 points of constriction. She comes up pretty well and I've shot her enough to not even think about pumping although that's usually two shots in sequence, not three.

Rock Mountain's signature Trimo shoot is 150 clays over 15 stations, with three traps on each station and three clays per call as per the station menu. One single and a simo on report, or one simo and a single on report, or all three birds simultaneous with one button on the clicker. Evil Mike the target setter did his usual deed and the course was pretty challenging but real fun. I was shooting Fiocchi factory 1-ouncers at 1170 speed with 7-1/2 shot.

Thank you again Ron but remember, you have something coming at Hausmann's  frank

And that’s a mighty tight choke too.

8) Full choke rules!! Frank shot lights out, especially with a shell-shucker. I know where he dropped 4 birds and that was the separator station. Trimo (3 birds in the air at the same time) all traps no more than 10 yards in front of the elevated platform. Two at 1:00-2:00 and one at 10:00. All mid height. You’d have to shoot the 10:00 bird first and quick in order to make the other two easy. That takes a lot of shooters out of their comfort zone. Most will focus on breaking the other two birds and poke at the 10:00 bird as it starts to settle down at 50 yards usually resulting in a lost bird. I did see a few shooters break it at distance but they were usually poke-and-hope. Frank earned it. Well struck my friend.

Way to go Frank!!

Z bar Z over in Montana holds such a shoot but it is "full use of the gun" in that you can shoot the three birds and then the larger chips. I did watch a shooter score six at a station using a five-shot Browning autoloader and throwing in a sixth shell in the speedload slot.

More than a few have had to bend the knee to an A-5 at a 3-bird shoot! If you're fast enough with the speed loader, its "Chips Ahoy! Kevin

Thanks all. I appreciate your comments. Just some thoughts to friends here. If you want something different to add spice to your sporting clays shooting, there are tons of good 12g/30" Model 12's for sale that had been modified with Simmons Vent Ribs back when the M12 was King of the Trap fields. Over the years I've bought a few of them that looked good, and every one had heavy dust on the front of the magazine tube hanger from standing upright and unused for decades. Actions were also stiff from congealed oil etc. A sad end for "The Perfect Repeater". They're well out of style with serious Trap guys, relatively cheap when they come on the market and it doesn't take much to cut down the comb of a high Trap stock to get one to shoot 50/50 or maybe a bit higher for sporting. Most will have longer LOP's = good. And if you're uncomfortable with a Full choke you can that get it opened to Modified. Just sayin' all this. frank
