Hausmann's 2023
I think I've made the trek from Michigan to Hausmann's 9 times. It's a long drive, but I always look forward to the adventure. Driving through southeast Michigan is far from scenic, and crossing Ohio is not much better. However, once I hit Lake Chautauqua, the drive is a pure joy. From there on, it's beautiful mountains and the Allegheny River. When I arrive at Vestal NY, there's plenty of camaraderie with like-minded people at the hotel.
Okay, enough chatter about the trip. Based on what I've read on the Parker Pages, as of September 2022, there are new laws in the State of New York that might make it difficult for enthusiasts traveling to Hausmann's. I know that there are several members that reside in New York and it would be nice if you warned those of us before we travel through your state. I enjoy New York's scenery, but it's unlikely that I'll purchase 6 hard, lockable cases just so I can enjoy highway 17.

Re: Hausmann's 2023
Jeff,
Copied the following:
Safe Handling and Storage Law Changes
Q29) How does the new law impact transporting guns in a vehicle?
A) Effective September 1, 2022, if you leave your gun unattended in a vehicle, it must
be unloaded and locked in a fire, impact, and tamper resistant storage depository that is
hidden from view. Glove compartments and glove boxes are not appropriate safe
storage depositories. A plastic or aluminum, lockable, hard-sided, gun case or safe will
suffice for this purpose.
This came from the following:
https://troopers.ny.gov/system/files/do ... inal-1.pdf
PS. Jeff, if you are physically in the vehicle, you can use a soft sided case for transport. That said, I don't see how you would be legal stopping at a rest stop in NY to take a leak unless you are traveling with another person who could stay in the vehicle while you took turns at the rest stop.

Thanks! New York is a beautiful state and it’s unfortunate that they are making things difficult for the good sportsmen that reside there.

Re: Hausmann's 2023
I'm booked for a hotel in NY, but might change. I know I can stay in Pa where Mike K recommends, but I've got diet issues (Celiac Disease) and New York has many more places where I can safely eat. Yep, they sure don't make it easy. I usually put my guns in soft cases to take up there, but might have to go a different route this year if I do decide to stay in NY.

The more stupid laws they pass the less the citizenship pays any attention to anything they do. It's no wonder so many people have no respect for the law. In NY the common criminal has nothing to fear, the judicial system holds them to no account. How did we get to this place? How do get out of it?

Re: Hausmann's 2023
I live fairly close here in PA and the NY laws don’t affect me.
Food for thought as an alternate to the Vestal NY hotels: I drive through Tunkhannock on the way to Hidden Hollow (Hausmann’s) and Tunk is about 40-45 mins from HH by taking US 267 from Meshoppen. A nice drive through farmland and woods. That’s a little longer than from Vestal but not all that much so. An increasing number of shooters have and are migrating to hotels in Tunk for the Northeast at HH and the Northern SxS at Rock Mountain. There are two higher tier hotels in Tunk and plenty of good eating places in/nearby town. There’s another decent and less costly hotel west of Tunk that’s a few miles closer to HH. And if a group of Fox shooters staying in Tunk are interested I can take them to a good dinner place we regularly use that’s about 5 miles away.
Several shooters also stay at places in Montrose PA even closer to HH but they tend to be used heavily by gas drillers and are usually booked up well in advance.

Re: Hausmann's 2023
Jeff,
As Frank and Mike suggest, just stay in Pa and you don’t have to sweat being legal. I’ve slept at the Hampton or Comfort Inn in Tunkhannock and they’re both respectable places. While at the Vintagers, me and Shane stayed at Skyview motel I believe, not all your amenities of a large name hotel, but clean and good beds.
The eating places are more privately held establishments versus big name establishments in Vestal, but still acceptable. Frireside Resturant is a good one and Twigs Cafe in my experience. It is a shame that Remington’s closed a few years back.
Support Pa,
Stan

Re: Hausmann's 2023
Thanks, I may have to give it a try. During July of 2020 I stayed in downtown Tunkhannock, with you. Remember when my cell phone blew up?
. On that particular trip the route was really bad. Darn navigation software. I may have to buy one of those old fashioned paper maps.

Re: Hausmann's 2023
I believe that was before 2020,
we only shot at Rock Mtn that particular year, or is that where we were shooting? Yes, I remember well going through the lobby and front desk stopping us. You guys know a guy by the name of Jeff Stegmier, his wife would like a call back
We had a couple good laughs on that one Jeff,

Re: Hausmann's 2023
Food for thought ! If you can get a group of say 4-6 guys look into an AirBnB . I’m in with a Parker/Ithaca group for Hausemanns an all Parker group for Rock Mountain and an all Parker group for the Vintage Cup . All in PA of course . Hopefully I’ll feel comfortable enough to leave shotguns in the truck at night .
Parker’s , Mannlicher Schoenauer’s , 6.5mm’s and my family in the Philippines
