My first Fox
My first Fox
Good day to all. I have just recently purchased my first vintage side by side and as a gun and history lover, I didn’t think I could go wrong with the working man’s Fox. I bought a Sterlingworth online on a chance and I believe I did alright. She’s absolutely gorgeous to me and seems to function flawlessly. She’s got a couple pit marks and dings in the barrel but the bores are bright and it doesn’t look like it was shot much. I have heard of Bill Graham of nice old double gunworks from a pod cast. I would like to send it to him to check out and make sure it’s safe to shoot and if not, repair what is needed. Can someone recommend another gunsmith? Please see the pictures attached and let me know if I got a lemon. I am fairly certain the barrels were cut down as length is 25 3/4 and a shoddy attempt at soldering the muzzles. I don’t mind the short barrels though. I want a shooter!

Welcome to the group. Sterlingworth's are great guns.
Shoot vintage firearms, relax, and have fun.

Re: My first Fox
Since I started recording observed Sterlingworths in 1989, I hadn't recorded a gun in the 70xxx serial number range. Now this week yours is the third!! Welcome aboard.

I know nothing about these folks myself, but John Powers is in the custom gunmakers guild as a restoration specialists and that's a pretty good statement.
Might be worth giving him a call: https://powersmetalworks.com/gun-services
