Re: Fox ads in August 1911 "Rod and Gun in Canada"
Here is that ad with the U.S. retail price --
At least Western Field got the correct cut of a C-Grade in this ad --
Here is that gauging ad from National Sportsman --
Note that ads in different magazines have different numbers in the 4600 block of North 18th Street. I believe this is a way they tracked response to their ads in various magazines.
In the later 1920s the address changes to the 4700 block when the ads speak of a new factory and new lower price for the Sterlingworth --

That early C is a very pretty gun.
You sure don't see many of them, especially high condition ones.
You have one don't you Dave N.? And you Frank?

Re: Fox ads in "Rod and Gun in Canada"
From my years of searching, I've found our man Ansley heavily advertising through November 1911. The A.H. Fox Gun Co. went all out in the July 1911, National Sportsman --
one regular page with this ad --
and three heavy stock pages spread through the issue with a color cut of each of the six grades and a catalog type description --
I haven't found any A.H. Fox Gun Co. ads from December 1911 through April 1912.

Frank, I like that early C. I never noticed the woodcock on the breech ball. Thanks for the education. What’s on the underside? A dog?

Here are the bottoms of a few of "banner style" C-Grades --

Thanks Jeff. There's a nicely engraved setter facing left and a flushing duck in a marsh scene on the trigger guard bow (reminiscent of duck scenes on higher grade Syracuse Lefevers)Jeff S wrote:Frank, I like that early C. Frank and Dave. Thanks for the information on the bottom plates. I handled one at Jay’s shop once, but I couldn’t remember the underside. It sure is a good looking style for the C.
