Interesting. I wonder if there were plugs to fill some of those holes to make the "adjustments"?

I once owned an EE grade Lefever 16 ga. that had a recoil pad with the brand, "Whippet" embossed on it along with the profile of a Whippet dog in the brick red rubber of the pad.

I can't say for sure, but I suspect the difference in the pads were more in the softness/hardness of the rubber compound rather than how many holes were filled, or open.
