2014 Fox vs. Parker Challenge at Hidden Hollow

Post by TOOL MAN »

COMRADES,

The stage is set.

This will mark year three of the Fox /Parker Challenge and though still in its infancy, slowly but surely, this 'baby' is beginning to grow legs! The contest, scheduled for Fri./Sat. June 6-7th at Hausmann's Hidden Hollow, will look more
like the Parker/L.C. Smith Challenge than ever before. This year, we have added a qualification round and "The Challenge" teams will be shooting head to head, on Ernie's, Crazy Quail layout. We believe, like our Bo-Whoop and Letterman finales, this too will attract a large gathering of spectators. We have also joined forces with our brothers from the PGCA and have ordered official FPC hats for those talented enough to earn a spot on Team Fox.

The rules for this much anticipated contest are posted below. Lock & Load.

2014 Fox–Parker Challenge Rules

1) Competition is open to members in good standing of the AHFCA or PGCA as of June 1st, 2014. Updated rosters will be on hand to verify current membership status. Dual members of AHFCA and PGCA must choose ONE Association to represent at time of registration. Anyone attempting to shoot for both Associations will be disqualified.

2) Shooters must use a vintage shotgun promoted by the organization they choose to represent. Those shooting A.H. Fox guns and representing the AHFCA are limited to Fox guns manufactured in Philadelphia, PA and Utica, NY. Those shooting Parker Bros. or Parker guns and representing the PGCA are limited to Parker guns manufactured in Meriden, CT and Ilion, NY.

3) All those who wish to compete in the 2014 Fox/Parker Challenge must first shoot the 10-12-16 gauge course at Haussmann’s. This will be the “Qualification Round.” Any gun may be used (10 GA thru .410). The gunner will specify the maker and gauge when signing up at the clubhouse. You may shoot more than one qualification round (utilizing the same maker’s gun) with a separate signup and fee due each time.

4) Qualification round(s) may be shot all day on Friday June 6th or up until 11 am on Saturday June 7th. Completed scorecards must be back into the clubhouse no later than 11 am on Saturday. NO EXCEPTIONS!

5) The Top-5, high-scoring Fox and Parker shooters will be selected for the respective Challenge teams.

6) The Fox–Parker Challenge will be conducted on Hidden Hollow’s “Crazy Quail” field at 1 pm sharp on Saturday June 6th. A flip of the coin will decide the first team to shoot. “Crazy Quail” is a type of “flurry” however the timing between target releases will be lengthened slightly, to allow for more deliberate shooting

7) A total of 125 targets will be thrown for each team of 5 gunners. High cumulative score will decide the 2014 winning team. The cumulative score for each team will be calculated as follows: the sum of scores recorded by the Hidden Hollow scorer + the official Parker scorer + the official Fox scorer. That sum will be divided by three (3) and rounded to the second decimal place. Each scorer will use a hand operated mechanical counter.

8) In the event of a trap malfunction during a team’s attempt at the Challenge targets, the Hidden Hollow official will void that team’s score and a new round of 125 targets will be shot.

9) The wearing of Eye and Ear protection is required of all competitors.

10) All Hidden Hollow/NSCA rules will apply for ammunition and maximum allowed shot size.

11) All shooters who qualify for the Challenge Team will receive an official Fox/Parker
Hat to commemorate this epic contest.

11. All shooters must have fun, be safe and conduct themselves in a sportsmanlike manner becoming of these two, fine organizations!
On the whole....I'd rather be in Philadelphia....

I like the "must have fun" part. I always have fun shooting! It's the "conduct themselves in a sportsmanlike manner" that I have trouble with!! Vince Lombardi said "Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing" and Al Davis said "Just win, baby!!". If I told you what Chuck Norris said, well, then he'd have to kill you!!

This looks like a fun event! The planning was wise to conclude the entire event before Sunday.

I shot with Mike and some other friends today at his sporting club (Rock Mountain). We're both getting ready for the F-P Challenge at the Northeast SxS. Here's a cell phone pic of two Ansley-era CE's out on the course. Nice to see two together. Closest one is my "Matilda" that hasn't been out of the safe in many months. Farthest away is a very nice CE that came home with Mike from the Southern. Well Matilda was a little lame from all that time cooped up and missed 8 of the first 25 - but went on to best Mike's CE by 2 birds. 83/100 vs 81/100. I shot the club pro's menu but with simos instead of report pairs on some of the stations, and I know friend Mike will say that he shot even tougher targets. But he won't tell you he previously shot the course 3X with his CE. :P :P And that's the truth and I'm sticking to it. :D PS the whole gang were joking about this while on the course and we had a great time. There were a couple of crude comments (local usage) made about our personal target menus but I can't repeat them here.

Before someone asks, Matilda was restocked some years ago by Craig Libhart at Susquehanna Stockworks and I'd asked him to make a longer XE length forend but without the fancy ebony tip. Yep, I have her original Monte Carlo comb stock and forend stashed away. With what I know now I wouldn't have restocked Matilda but she can easily revert if I want to.

I hope our other Foxers are getting practice in and tuning up for the Challenge.
