My grandpa had an old shotgun in a closet that he warned us never to shoot. Well, being kids, of course we shot it when he went to town one day and left us alone!
I inherited it umpteen years ago, but I’d like to see if it can be restored and used again safely for hunting. It was his gun as a kid and it’s not worth much other than sentimental value, because of the condition, but the action still works. The problem is that one of the barrels is raked pretty good inside, possibly he fired a slug thru that one?
I know zippy about this gun, other than what I can glean off the www. The serial number is 202262 and it’s a SxS. It has a prominent A stamp.
Getting to my question: if I were to find a serviceable used replacement double-barrel, will it accept modern shells without modification? Ultimately, I’d like to pass it on to the next generation of hunters in the family if I can certify it’s safety and functionality.
