Quite correct, Paul. Thanks for the pics. I did so poorly with my SuperFox, I had a go with what fits best - my S'worth 20 ga ejector with 30" bbls. I wish I could blame the equipment.

Not consecutive guns, but perhaps they are consecutive Philly Super Foxes? I have HE 31596 (complete gun) and just the barrels for HE 31581. 14 guns separate them and I would very much like to find the action for 31581. 20+ years of looking have not produced it .... That was what I was hoping and makes more sense to stamp the flats than the water table. I certainly would prefer the barrel flats to the barrel exterior myself. I guess there is no concrete answer, but I appreciate all the responses very much.

Thanks, Mike. Well, I had hoped it might be Savage, but I guess I have my answer. I can't imagine why anyone would go to the trouble to stamp the barrel flats? Neater? Yes, well, I guess it must have been past quitting time and the rush was on.

I'm sorry, I don't understand. Are you saying you've seen the same stamping on the watertable of a 16 ga? Is that just the "16 ga" stamp?

Thanks very much, Mr. Kaas. Yes, I have seen the exterior stamping. Was hopeful that this was an early Savage stamp or that current owner resisted the exterior stamping. If it is simply an after market stamp - then it was just done as a reminder to the user? Thanks,

The following picture is of a 16 ga. Sterlingworth's barrel flat. It is a Philly gun from 1914. Does this look like stamping performed later by Savage - perhaps the gun was returned for repair and Savage extended the chambers? Thanks very much, in advance, for any help/thoughts. How do you recognize this gun as a Skeet and Upland gun? A straight grip and two beads? How about if it had the optional ejectors? What would differentiate it from a Sterlingworth Deluxe? Just the straight grip?
